Bourses continue upward momentum in early afternoon session

The BSE Mid cap index gained 0.31%, while Small cap index was up by 1.31%

Indian markets continued their upward momentum in early afternoon session following gains in other Asian markets. A fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel has helped calm investor nerves and improve market sentiment. Meanwhile, traders were braced for monthly F&O expiry.  Traders took note of report that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that negotiations for the proposed free trade agreements with the US and European Union (EU) are progressing at a fast pace and would be concluded soon. All efforts are being made to boost exports to achieve the ambitious target of $2 trillion by 2030. 

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in green as Israel-Iran truce lifted the investors’ mood. Besides, producer prices in Japan were up 3.3 percent on year in May. That beat forecasts for an increase of 3.1 percent and was down from 3.4 percent in April. On a monthly basis, producer prices dipped 0.1 percent after rising 0.7 percent in the previous month. 

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 82561.76, up by 506.65 points or 0.62% after trading in a range of 82339.57 and 82675.91. There were 26 stocks advancing against 4 stocks declining on the index.

The broader indices were trading in green; the BSE Mid cap index gained 0.31%, while Small cap index was up by 1.31%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Telecom up by 1.24%, Consumer Durables up by 1.20%, TECK up by 1.20%, IT up by 1.12% and Consumer discretionary up by 0.90%, while Capital Goods down by 0.61%, Realty down by 0.32% and PSU was down by 0.01% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Titan Company up by 3.22%, Tech Mahindra up by 1.62%, Bharti Airtel up by 1.54%, Infosys up by 1.45% and Power Grid up by 1.42%. On the flip side, Bharat Electronics down by 1.85%, Kotak Mahindra Bank down by 0.89%, Axis Bank down by 0.45% and ICICI Bank down by 0.15% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in its monthly data has showed that India's domestic air passenger traffic increased 1.89 per cent to 140.56 lakh in May 2025 as compared to that of the same month last year. The number of domestic passengers flown by the Indian airline in May 2024 was 137.96 lakh.

Data further stated that in May 2025, IndiGo flew a total of 93.09 lakh passengers with a market share of 64 per cent, followed by the Air India Group, which recorded 37.22 lakh passengers, grabbing a market share of 26.5 per cent market share. The two other major carriers Akasa Air and SpiceJet flew 7.48 lakh and 3.40 lakh passengers, respectively, during the month under review.  

As per the data, Akasa's market share stood at 5.3 per cent in May 2025 while SpiceJet's share in the total domestic passenger traffic was 2.4 per cent. In terms of scheduled integrity, IndiGo delivered the highest on-time performance at 84 per cent in May followed by Air India, which clocked 79.7 per cent OTP from six key airports. 

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 25182.65, up by 138.30 points or 0.55% after trading in a range of 25125.05 and 25220.50. There were 38 stocks advancing against 12 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Titan Company up by 3.24%, Tata Consumer up by 1.90%, Nestle up by 1.64%, Tech Mahindra up by 1.58% and Bharti Airtel up by 1.46%. On the flip side, Bharat Electronics down by 1.82%, Kotak Mahindra Bank down by 0.86%, Eicher Motors down by 0.79%, Axis Bank down by 0.59% and Shriram Finance down by 0.32% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mostly in green; Hang Seng advanced 303.9 points or 1.24% to 24,480.97, Taiwan Weighted added 241.85 points or 1.08% to 22,430.61, Nikkei 225 surged 151.51 points or 0.39% to 38,942.07, Shanghai Composite strengthened 36.25 points or 1.05% to 3,456.82, Straits Times rose 18.86 points or 0.48% to 3,923.16 and KOSPI was up by 4.61 points or 0.15% to 3,108.25. On the flip side, Jakarta Composite was down by 41.92 points or 0.61% to 6,827.25.
