Parliament Monsoon Session: Both houses adjourned sine die

Both Houses of Parliament adjourned sine die, marking the end of the 21-day-long Monsoon Session of the Parliament. This session witnessed multiple adjournments due to pressure from the opposition demanding a discussion on the voter list revision in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections.
When the Lok Sabha met at 12 pm, Speaker Om Birla asserted that during the entire session, repeated efforts were made to disrupt the proceedings. He said it was time for introspection for all as not much discussion could take place during the month-long session. Mr. Birla blames continuous protests by Opposition for low productivity of the House during the session. Before adjourning the House sine die, Speaker thanked members who had participated constructively and urged lawmakers to recommit to the values of deliberation and dignity in future sessions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present for the last day of the session.
The Rajya Sabha, however, was adjourned till 2 pm as protests due to the speaker not accepting adjournment notices erupted in the house. Deputy Chairman Harivansh adjourned sine die with regretting that repeated disruptions deprived the House of meaningful discussion on various matters of public importance.
Despite the protests, the government managed to introduce 14 Bills and secure the passage of 12, including the Income Tax Bill, the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, the National Sports Governance Bill, and the Online Gaming Regulation Bill. The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, which seeks to decriminalise politics, was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.
The session saw a discussion on Operation Sindoor - India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack - with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the House. Lok Sabha barely worked for 37 hours, while Rajya Sabha functioned a little over 41 hours in these 21 days.
